The Currency Time Machine
Your pension, Social Security and portfolio pay you in dollars. Your rent, groceries and doctors charge you in euros, pounds or pesos. Pick the month you moved abroad and see what the exchange rate did to the same dollars.
How much currency exposure belongs in your plan depends on where you spend, where your income comes from and how you are taxed in two countries. That is a conversation, not a calculator — and Gary Korolev, CFA, will have it with you personally.
This illustration uses European Central Bank monthly average reference exchange rates, with U.S. dollar rates for the pound, Canadian dollar, Mexican peso and Swiss franc derived from the euro reference rates, from January 2000 through the most recent month shown. Amounts are nominal: they do not reflect inflation in either country, investment returns, taxes, fees, or the cost of converting or hedging currency. Holding part of income at a fixed local-currency value is a simplification. The illustration is hypothetical, provided for educational purposes only, and does not represent any Sovereign Wealth Management strategy, account or client result. Exchange rates can move significantly in either direction, and past movements do not predict future ones. This is not investment, tax or legal advice; please consult your advisor regarding your own circumstances.

Sovereign Wealth Management, LLC ("Adviser") has adopted a Business Continuity Plan ("BCP") pursuant to the Investment Advisers Act and the rules and guidance of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") and/or the laws of Virginia where the Adviser is registered. The purpose of the BCP is to define the strategies and plans that will be used by Adviser during a significant business disruption ("SBD"). The BCP is prepared to address both internal SBDs, such as a fire in Adviser's building, and external SBDs, such as a natural disaster, terrorist attack, or citywide power disruption.

Adviser will work to re-establish the systems necessary to quickly recover and resume operations, protect Adviser's books and records and allow Adviser's customers to transact business to the extent reasonable and practical under the circumstances. Adviser's BCP addresses: alternate office locations, customer access to funds and securities, financial and operational assessments, data backup and recovery, critical systems, alternative communications with customers, employees, and regulators, and critical business constituents.
