Here’s What You’ll Learn
- Eligibility Are you 65 or older, or do you have a disability? If you’re a U.S. citizen or legal resident with at least 10 years of work and Medicare taxes paid, you’re likely eligible. You must also have lived in the U.S. for five consecutive years prior to enrolling.
- Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) A crucial seven-month window surrounding your 65th birthday. If you’re already receiving Social Security, you’ll be automatically enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B. Part A is free and covers hospital services.
- General Enrollment Period (GEP) Missed your IEP? The GEP runs from January to March each year, with coverage starting the month following enrollment.
