Biography
Linda V. English graduated Cum Laude in 1969 from SUNY at Stony Brook with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Studies Education. She attended the New York University Graduate School of Education in 1969-70 on a full scholarship leaving graduate school to pursue a teaching career in Commack, NY.
In 1971 she joined the brokerage firm of Paine, Webber, Jackson & Curtis as a Compliance Research Assistant. In 1972 and 73 she attended the New York Institute of Finance studying the work of the stock exchange, margin administration, and back office procedures. She acquired her stockbroker’s Series 7 registration and her Commodity Futures Trading registration in 1973.
Ms. English joined the commodity services firm of ACLI International in 1973 in the commercial hedging division. In 1980 she transferred to the Mid-Atlantic regional office of Clayton Brokerage Co. of St. Louis to manage their Northern Virginia office. In 1982 Ms. English joined the tax and investment planning firm of Lara, Millard and Associates. There, she earned the Certified Financial Planner® designation in 1984.
Ms. English secured her real estate license in 1977 and her real estate broker’s license in 1980. She was the sole owner of LVE Realty from 1980 until June 2009 when she placed her Realtor’s license on inactive status and dissolved the firm. Ms English received the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors Pioneer Club award in Dec. 2002 for 25 years of membership.
Ms. English started the firm of English, Hurst & Associates, Inc., a registered investment advisory firm, in 1987. She secured her Series 24, Securities Principal registration in 1988.
Ms. English was the President, Chief Compliance Officer, and an investment advisor representative of English & Associates, Inc. since the firm was created in 1991 until her affiliation with Spire Investment Partners in 2013. She was a registered representative with H. Beck, Inc. from February 2002 thru November 2013. Before that, she was a registered representative with Nathan & Lewis Securities from January 1990 to February 2002. She has been a member of the Advisory Board for Chain Bridge Bank, N.A. McLean since July 2007.
Ms. English spends the majority of her time on the delivery of advisory services and securities related services; she spends some of her workweek on insurance matters. In addition, she spends a small amount of time on her Board duties for Chain Bridge Bank, N.A. McLean.
